Here We Are!
16. July 2008 by Jen.
This is our first ever Wedding Frenzy blog entry! We are so excited to have this opportunity to share with you some useful facts, interesting thoughts and maybe even humorous tidbits! First, we’ll start with an introduction to who we are.
My name is Jennifer Carr. You can call me Jen. I have been a Certified Wedding/Event Specialist since 2005. I have always loved a good wedding. I tear up at people’s weddings even if I don’t know them! I have been known to cry while watching “A Wedding Story” on TLC! I can’t help it. When done right, weddings can be special to even the most of strangers.
The first remark people make when I mention that I am a wedding planner is, “Oh! Like Jennifer Lopez on that movie!” My response is usually, “Yeah, not really.” Of course, it’s said with a smile. Why do I say, “not really?” Because, it’s not really anything like that movie. There is no magical speech to calm wedding jitters (though we have learned that Vodka doesn’t hurt), I don’t fall in love with the grooms at my weddings (I’ve got my own groom that I’m in love with!) and I don’t use walkie talkies (we use cell phones since weekends are free)!
Don’t get me wrong, there is usually plenty of drama of some sort going on at any and every wedding. I’d share some stories, but I feel those are best kept with me. Maybe one day I will write a book! I tell you what, if I write a book and you’re reading this blog, I will give you a free copy of it when it comes out (let’s shoot for year 2020)! Not that I need to add anything else to my agenda, but now I’m considering writing a book… J I’ll keep you posted.
A little more about The Wedding Frenzy – I have 1 permanent assistant… my husband! We’ve been married 4 years and 4 months. It’s so hard to believe that we’re going on FIVE years! It has flown by. Robert (Rob) has been my rock and my cheerleader. He has been my sounding board and my voice of reason. I don’t think I could have gotten as far as I have without him. He has worked so hard for me, beside me and with me. There are not enough words in the world to tell him how thankful I am for him and how blessed I am to have him. I’ll just start with this public confession J
I have been assisting with weddings for 3 years. It started when I started planning my own wedding. We got engaged in December of 2003. I didn’t want a long engagement so we set the date for July of 2004. Along with wanting an outside wedding in Alabama, our apartment lease, school and work schedules better coincided before July. Thus, we moved our wedding to March 6. If you do the math, that gives about 2 months to plan a wedding. Since our parents were going to be helping the most, it wasn’t going to be very big, we knew that. But planning a wedding is planning a wedding! We got on the ball and I must say, we had the best wedding ever planned J I am biased though. It wasn’t outside like I wanted because it had rained the day before and the day before that so the ground was not conducive to an outdoor wedding. However, we made it work just fine. One of our wedding pictures is posted above!
It’s been quite the journey. We’ve had our easy times and we have had our not so easy times. I’m looking forward to the future and it looks bright. It looks busy but it is gleaming bright! I hope you’ll continue to join us on this journey. Whether you are getting married or know someone who is getting married, I want you to come with us and we tread the path laid before us! It is going to be exciting! Best Wishes and Happy Planning!
